The Rivers State House of Assembly has threatened to summon the construction company handling the reconstruction of the Ngo–Oyorokotor Road in Andoni Local Government Area over the alleged abandonment of the project.
The road project, initiated by the Rivers State Government under Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is expected to connect coastal communities to Oyorokotor.
During an oversight visit to the project site, the member representing Andoni Constituency and Deputy Whip of the Assembly, Ofiks Christopher Kagbang, criticised the slow pace of work and alleged abandonment of the project despite claims that a substantial part of the contract sum had already been paid.
He said the Assembly would invite officials of the construction company, MCC, and the State Ministry of Works to explain the delay in completing the road.
Youth President of Ngo Town, Dick Nkakeek, described the road as economically important to the area and appealed to the Assembly to ensure the project is completed.
Community leaders John-Bibor Egbesi and Geoffrey Jack also criticised the delay and called for immediate continuation of work on the project.
