The Orashi National Congress, ONC, has appealed to the Rivers State Government and the Ministry of Health to urgently intervene in the deteriorating conditions of the Ahoada Zonal Hospital.
President-General of the Congress, Emeni Ibe, made the appeal in an interview with Today FM correspondent, Olawale Sanusi.
Ibe said the hospital, which was recently commissioned by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is currently experiencing shortages of basic amenities, particularly water and electricity.
According to him, the situation is affecting the effective delivery of healthcare services to residents of Ahoada and surrounding communities.
The ONC President-General also raised concerns over the shortage of medical personnel at the facility, saying only about six doctors are currently available and operate on shifts.
Ibe further explained that the hospital’s solar power system is inadequate to provide sufficient electricity and pump water, forcing residents to rely on nearby wells for their water needs.
He therefore appealed to the state government to urgently address the challenges at the facility, stressing that residents of Ahoada deserve improved healthcare services and proper management of the hospital.
