Rivers Government Seeks Partnership With Financial Institutions for Urban Renewal

The Rivers State Government has opened discussions with financial institutions operating in the state as part of efforts to drive its urban transformation and renewal projects.

Speaking during a stakeholder meeting, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Amaopusenibo Ama Edward Hart, said the financial sector remains a critical partner in achieving sustainable development goals.

He disclosed that the ministry would soon release a comprehensive list of projects under the urban renewal scheme to allow institutions select areas that align with their corporate interests and operational capacities.

Hart added that the Fubara administration intends to prioritise business relationships with institutions that demonstrate commitment to the state through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Soibi Duke Harry, said the partnership offers financial institutions opportunities for visibility, community impact and social responsibility.

A representative of one of the commercial banks, Obingonye Nonye, commended the initiative and promised support from the banking sector.
