Ramaphosa Praises South Africans for Peaceful Anti-Migration Protests

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised citizens for what he described as largely peaceful demonstrations during recent anti-migration protests, saying participants exercised their constitutional right in a responsible manner.

In a statement issued after the nationwide demonstrations, Ramaphosa commended protesters, community leaders, organisers, civil society groups, religious leaders and law enforcement agencies for maintaining peace, restraint and respect for the rule of law. He, however, warned that security agencies would remain vigilant and ensure that anyone who exploited the protests to commit acts of violence, looting or intimidation would face the law.

The demonstrations were held amid growing tensions over irregular migration in South Africa, with authorities deploying security personnel across several provinces to prevent violence and protect both protesters and residents.
