Primary health care workers in Rivers State have joined the call on the state government and security agencies to take action to check the wave of kidnapping of medical doctors for ransom.State Chairman of the Primary Health Care Workers Association of Nigeria, DANIEL ATEMIE, made the call in support of the Nigerian Medical Association.This comes a day after medical doctors in Rivers State staged a peaceful demonstration in Port Harcourt to draw attention to their plight.Speaking in an interview with our correspondent JUDITH OKAFOR, ATEMIE called on the government to live up to its responsibility to protect citizens in the state.He lamented that the frequent attacks by kidnappers on medical doctors has become a major hindrance to medical health personnel from going to work regularly.DANIEL ATEMIE said the primary health care workers are ready to give their support to the Nigerian Medical Association if the medical doctors decide on any industrial action to draw attention to the security concerns.
