President MUHAMMADU BUHARI yesterday presided an indoor celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary, including inspecting a special Presidential Guard Parade at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President HUHARI was joined for the ceremony by Vice President YEMI OSINBAJO and Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI, with all three most important citizens decked in white caftan.
You will recall that President BUHARI had approved seventy million naira for a low-key celebration, which has become the standard in recent years.
There were also gun salute by the military, and the release of white pigeons by President BUHARI as a symbol of peace in the country.
The last time Nigeria’s Independence was marked in a public event at the Eagle Square in the Abuja on the 1st of October, 2010.
By the end of that ceremony five years ago, two car bomb explosions were detonated close to the venue, which killed about a dozen people and injured several others.
