Residents of Port Harcourt have expressed mixed feelings over the persistent rainfall in the city this November. While some say they had expected the onset of the dry harmattan season, others noted that rainfall during this period is not unusual for the state.
A climate expert, Professor Patricks Chinemerem, said there could be even more intense rainfall in the coming days. He explained that variations in precipitation patterns and rainfall intensity are often linked to changes in global climate conditions.
Professor Chinemerem, who heads the EMT International Projects Team for Research & Learning on Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation, added that beyond blocked drainages, flooding in some parts of Rivers State could also be attributed to the shallow water table in those areas.
