Police to Destroy Expired Explosives in Rivers Community July 8–10

The Rivers State Police Command has announced plans to destroy expired explosive materials in the custody of Halliburton Energy Services Nigeria Limited at Kporghor Community in Tai Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing-Kaborlo, the command said the controlled disposal exercise will take place between July 8 and July 10, 2026.

According to the statement, the destruction was approved after relevant experts examined the explosives and confirmed they had expired.

The exercise will be carried out by a team of Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) operatives from Port Harcourt.

The police assured residents that adequate safety measures have been put in place to ensure the exercise is conducted without incident. The command also urged residents of Kporghor Community and neighbouring areas not to panic if they hear loud explosions during the period, explaining that the sounds will result from the controlled destruction of the expired explosives.
