Two Killed, Five Injured in Midnight Attack on Rivers Community

Two persons have been killed and five others injured following a midnight attack on Rumuodogo Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The attackers are suspected to have come from the neighbouring Bukuma Community in Degema Local Government Area.

The violence is believed to be connected to the earlier discovery of the bodies of two fishermen from Bukuma in a boundary river. Their fishing nets were reportedly recovered from the homes of some residents of Rumuodogo, raising suspicion over the killings.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Rumuodogo Community Development Committee, Azubuike Abaruko, said some residents remain missing following the Sunday night invasion.

Meanwhile, four residents of Rumuodogo have reportedly been arrested by members of the community and handed over to the police over their alleged involvement in the killing of the two Bukuma fishermen.

Reacting to the incident, Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, directed the police to immediately investigate the attack on the community.

Speaking during a fact-finding visit to Rumuodogo on Monday, Dr. Lloyd described the violence as unnecessary and urged residents to remain calm.

He cautioned against holding the Rumuodogo community responsible for the deaths of the two Bukuma fishermen until the police conclude their investigation into the incident.
