A retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili, has urged law students across the Niger Delta to value every practical experience and learning opportunity encountered during their training, saying such lessons will shape their professional careers.
Justice Odili gave the advice while serving as Special Guest of Honour at the 2026 Annual Moot and Mock Trial Competition organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for faculties of law in the region.
The competition was held at the Nabo Graham Douglas SAN Campus of the Nigerian Law School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
She encouraged the participating students to make the most of the competition, regardless of the outcome, stressing that the experience gained would contribute to their development as future legal practitioners.
Also speaking, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Olumide Akpata, said moot trial advocacy equips law students with skills applicable across different areas of legal practice, including corporate law and solicitor work.
On his part, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, represented by the Director of Finance and Administration, Boma Iyaye, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to youth development and the promotion of legal education in the Niger Delta.
Today FM reports that the event attracted judges from the Rivers State High Court, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, legal practitioners, faculty advisers and student advocates from universities across the Niger Delta region.
