Chief NYECHE-AMADI who is a resident of Rumubiakani Community in Obio-Akpor Government Area of Rivers said the amount of money demanded would take care of the medical bills he incurred while treating himself of the injuries he suffered from Police brutality.
Chief NYECHEAMADI who made the demand when he appeared at the resumed sitting of the State Commission of inquiry into the alleged Acts of violence, torture, brutality, murder and violation of the Fundamental Rights of Citizens committed by officers, men and operatives of the Nigerian police said the money will also serve as a deterrent to the police and other security operatives who may indulge in the violation of human rights.
Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the proceeding did not go without some hitches from the police defence team led by I, N, UBULOM who opposed to the hearing of the petition on the grounds that it falls short of the commission’s scope of Jurisdiction.
The Chairman of the Panel, Justice CHUKWUNONYE URIRI however over ruled the Police and ordered the petitioner to present his case.
