Over 23,000 Lawyers to Attend NBA Annual Conference in Port Harcourt

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, says more than 23,000 legal practitioners from across Nigeria and a number of lawyers from outside the country are expected to attend its 66th Annual General Conference scheduled to begin on August 21, 2026, in Port Harcourt.

NBA President, Mazi Afam-Osigwe, SAN, disclosed this at a press conference in Port Harcourt, saying the return of the conference to the city was a form of restitution after the association moved last year’s event out of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency and appointment of a sole administrator, which it described as unconstitutional. He said the conference is expected to inject significant funds into the local economy through service providers, contractors and other businesses.

Afam-Osigwe apologized to Rivers residents for any inconvenience the large number of participants may cause and expressed optimism that the conference would be successful. Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Tonye Krukrubo, SAN, said the programme would feature lectures, educational activities and a city walk, with support from security agencies and the Rivers State Ministry of Health. Chairman of the Annual General Conference Planning Committee, Abdul Mohammed, SAN, said the theme, “Beyond Limit,” is aimed at rekindling hope among lawyers, Nigerians and Africans that perceived limitations can be overcome.
