Opposition Parties Reject 2026 Electoral Act, Demand Fresh Amendments

Opposition political parties have rejected the 2026 Electoral Act recently passed by the National Assembly and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.

The parties called on the National Assembly to immediately commence a fresh amendment process to expunge what they described as “all obnoxious provisions” contained in the new law.

Their position was made known during a press briefing themed “Urgent Call to Save Nigeria’s Democracy,” held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja.

The opposition parties insisted that certain sections of the Act pose a threat to Nigeria’s democratic process and urged lawmakers to act swiftly to safeguard the integrity of future elections.
