An elder statesman from Ogoniland, Andah Wai Ogosu, has appealed for calm amid rising tensions following some controversies surrounding the report of the dialogue committee on the resumption of oil activities in the area.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Ogosu described certain remarks made by some stakeholders as divisive and inciting. He urged leaders and influential voices within Ogoniland to refrain from fanning sentiments that could lead to communal disunity.
He stated, “We must remain united and avoid actions or statements that divide our people further. It is essential that we approach this sensitive issue with caution and dialogue.”
The environmentalist further disclosed that ongoing consultations are underway with the Federal Government regarding the possibility of extending posthumous honours to the four Ogoni chiefs murdered in Gokana, as part of efforts to promote reconciliation and justice in the region.
