NWFL: Race for Super Six qualification intensifies with Matchday 11 actions

The race for the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six qualification playoffs has intensified with Match-day 11 actions to commence on Wednesday April 9.

A total of eight matches will be played in various stadia across the country.

So far, three teams, Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens and Rivers Angels, have remained unbeaten, and thus poised for playoffs.

With just four rounds of games left in the 2024/2025 season, Matchday 11 will be crucial as key battles across both groups are set to reshape the standings.

In Group A, Remo Stars Ladies and Edo Queens will square up in a high-stake top-of-the-table clash, with Super Six spot on offer in Ikenne, Ogun.

This will be their fourth meeting in the topflight with both sides eyeing a firm grip on playoff qualification.

Remo Stars, second on the log, lost their unbeaten streak to Nasarawa Amazons but boast a perfect home record with five wins in five matches this season and amassing 25 points in total.

Meanwhile, Edo Queens remain the only unbeaten side in Group A, with 26 points and are eager to extend their one-point lead after the last meeting of both sides ended 1-1 in Benin.

At the Onikan Stadium Lagos, Dannaz Ladies will welcome Ekiti Queens, as both sides are desperate to return to winning ways.

Dannaz Ladies are winless in their last eight with three draws and five losses, while Ekiti Queens have suffered five straight defeats.

The Lagos-based Dannaz have just one home win this term, while the Queens from Ekiti have lost all five of their away fixtures.

Ekiti claimed a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture in Ado Ekiti and will hope for a season double.

It will be a north central derby with contrasting targets for the home team Nasarawa Amazons and visiting Confluence Queens of Lokoja at the Lafia township Stadium.

Nasarawa have won all five home games this season and sit comfortably in third place in Group A, in contrast, to Confluence Queens who have continued their survival push with only one win in five away fixtures.

Nasarawa edged Confluence Queens 1-0 in the reverse fixture courtesy of Shobowale Olushola’s goal and lead the head-to-head with four wins in nine meetings.

In Umuahia, Abia Angels will look to tighten their grip on a Super Six playoff spot as they welcome struggling Heartland Queens of Owerri.

The Abia side secured four wins out of five games at home with their only loss coming against leaders Edo Queens.

Meanwhile, Heartland Queens, who are yet to earn a point on the road, are desperate to avoid a sixth straight away defeat.

Fans will certainly be thrilled to another interesting fixture at the Onikan Waterfront as hosts FC Robo Queens welcome high-flying Rivers Angels, in a battle of contrasting momentum in Group B.

FC Robo are rejuvenated with back-to-back wins after three straight losses at  home, they have picked up 10 points from a possible 15.

Rivers Angels on the other hand remained unbeaten in 10 games, including four away wins and a draw, as they lead the head-to-head with four wins in seven.

In Yenagoa, visiting Benue Queens, still searching for their first league win will take on hosts Bayelsa Queens after managing to halt their losing streak with a draw against Delta Queens last week.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa have impressed on the road with three wins and two draws.

They also defeated Benue Queens 5-1 in the reverse fixture and will look to complete the double.

Elsewhere, at the Uyo Township Stadium, will be venue for hosts Ibom Angels vs Najia Ratels, a mid-table clash with hopes of Super Six playoffs qualification.

Ratels, seeking a second Super Six appearance after their 2021/22 debut, have four wins, four draws, and two losses so far.
