The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, has deployed specialised and tactical teams across the state ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration to strengthen security and ensure the safety of lives and property.
This was contained in a statement signed by the State Command Public Relations Officer, Ihemnacho Umeado, following a strategic management briefing held at the Command Headquarters by the State Commandant, Joachim Okafor.
According to the Command, operational units and tactical squads have been deployed to identified black spots and potential flashpoints across the state. Areas covered include recreational centres, Eid prayer grounds, major road intersections, markets, motor parks and other public locations.
Commandant Okafor also reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure. He directed the Anti-Vandal Unit to intensify patrols and surveillance around key installations, including telecommunications facilities, power infrastructure, and oil and gas pipelines.
The NSCDC assured residents of Rivers State of its readiness, in collaboration with other security agencies, to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
The Commandant warned criminal elements against taking advantage of the festive period to carry out unlawful activities, stressing that the Command would deal decisively with anyone found engaging in criminal acts.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities within their communities to the nearest security formation for prompt response.
While felicitating with the Muslim faithful, Commandant Okafor wished them a peaceful and fulfilling 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration and advised celebrants to conduct themselves within the ambit of the law.
