Brazil forward Neymar will miss his country’s upcoming friendly matches and could also miss their opening match at the World Cup due to injury.
The 34-year-old has been ruled out for between two and three weeks with a calf injury.
Neymar, who has scored seventy-nine goals in one hundred and twenty-eight appearances for Brazil, joined the national team camp on Tuesday but missed training the following day after complaining of swelling in his right calf.
The injury means he will miss Brazil’s friendly against Panama on Sunday and another friendly against Egypt scheduled for June sixth in Cleveland, Ohio.
Five-time world champions Brazil are expected to begin their World Cup Group C campaign against Morocco on June thirteenth in New Jersey before facing Haiti and Scotland in subsequent matches.
