The National Assembly has announced new security measures restricting movement around the office of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
In a memo dated October 2, 2025, and signed by the Sergeant-at-Arms at the National Assembly, Etido Ekpo, the management said the move was part of efforts to enhance security and regulate access within the legislative complex.
According to the directive, the corridor linking the White House lobby to the Senate President’s office will henceforth be reserved exclusively for senators and members of the House of Representatives. Staff of the Assembly, aides, visitors, journalists, and other individuals without official clearance will no longer be allowed to pass through the restricted area.
The memo emphasized that the decision was taken in line with standard security protocols and appealed to all staff and stakeholders to comply with the new rule.
This latest restriction comes amid rising concerns over security within key government institutions. It also reflects the National Assembly’s renewed focus on safeguarding the offices of principal officers and ensuring that legislative activities proceed without undue interruptions.
While no specific incident was cited as the trigger for the new measures, the development underscores the heightened caution within Nigeria’s corridors of power.
