The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, says its latest airstrike in Borno State has killed nine Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, fighters, including a key commander allegedly responsible for facilitating the movement and protection of senior members of the terrorist group.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities and movement of suspected terrorists within the Sambisa Forest area of the state.
In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said a Remotely Piloted Aircraft was deployed to conduct persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance operations.
According to the statement, the surveillance efforts provided actionable intelligence that enabled the Air Force to identify the location and movement of the suspected terrorists.
The NAF said the successful operation underscores the military’s continued efforts to degrade the operational capabilities of terrorist groups and disrupt their activities in the North-East.
The Air Force also reiterated its commitment to sustaining air operations against terrorist elements and other threats to national security.
