The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, NRS, Zacch Adedeji, has described the removal of petrol subsidy as one of the best decisions to have happened to Nigeria, commending President Bola Tinubu for taking the step.
Adedeji said the positive economic outcomes being recorded by the Federal Government are largely linked to the removal of the subsidy, which he described as unsustainable and harmful to the nation’s economy.
The NRS chairman said Nigeria’s petrol subsidy regime had persisted for decades despite its negative impact on government finances and the broader economy.
He maintained that ending the subsidy had enabled the government to redirect resources and pursue reforms aimed at strengthening the country’s economic foundation.
Adedeji therefore commended President Tinubu for taking what he described as a difficult but necessary decision, stressing that the long-term benefits of the policy would become more evident as the reforms continue.
