The Labour Party (LP) has announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections has been zoned to the southern region of the country, as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the polls. 🗳️
The disclosure was made by the party’s National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Nenadi Usman, on the sidelines of a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Usman explained that the decision forms part of the party’s strategy to promote inclusiveness, equity, and national balance in its leadership structure. She noted that zoning the presidential ticket to the South aligns with the party’s commitment to fairness and reflects consultations held among key stakeholders.
According to her, the Labour Party is already working to strengthen its internal structures across the country to ensure a credible and competitive outing in 2027. She added that discussions with INEC focused on party compliance, preparations for upcoming political activities, and the need to maintain transparency in the electoral process.
Political observers say the zoning decision could shape early alignments within the party, as potential aspirants from the southern region begin consultations and mobilization. ⚖️
The Labour Party gained national prominence in the 2023 general elections and is seeking to consolidate on that performance as the countdown to 2027 gradually begins.
