Kano Mass Wedding Open to Muslims, Christians – Official

The Kano State Hisbah Board has said the state’s mass wedding programme is open to both Muslims and Christians who meet the eligibility requirements.

The Deputy Commander-General of the Board, Sheikh Mujahideen Aminuddeen, said the initiative, popularly known as “Auren Gata,” is designed to support vulnerable groups, including widows, widowers, divorcees, spinsters and bachelors who are unable to afford marriage expenses.

Aminuddeen disclosed that Christian couples had participated in previous editions of the programme, noting that three Christian couples benefited from the 2023 exercise. He added that preparations are ongoing for the next mass wedding, although it is yet to be confirmed how many Christian couples will participate this year.

He said the initiative is helping to strengthen families, reduce immorality and support underprivileged residents by providing financial assistance and other welfare packages to beneficiaries. The Kano State Government has earmarked ₦1.5 billion for the forthcoming mass wedding programme, which is expected to benefit 1,500 couples.
