An online intelligence group that monitors activities of the jihadists said five people were killed in Tuesday’s attack.
It said the incident happened at a checkpoint in the north-eastern port city of Bosaso in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland.
The report quoted the police confirming that an explosive vest had been used in the operation.
