INEC deny one million dollars bribery allegation against BABALOLA.

You will recall that a prominent businessman and PDP governorship aspirant in Ondo State, JIMOH IBRAHIM, made the allegation during a media briefing in Abuja over the weekend.

JIMOH IBRAHIM alleged that a female INEC official had demanded one million dollars before the commission could process a court order that affirmed him as PDP governorship candidate for the election in November.

But INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voters Education and Publicity, Prince ADEDEJI SOYEBI said the Director of Legal Services could not have demanded a bribe from JIMOH IBRAHIM in the presence of three other lawyers during an unscheduled meeting with him that lasted about fifteen minutes.

The INEC statement also dismissed JIMOH IBRAHIM’s accusation against the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, SEGUN AGBAJE, of engaging in some dirty deals.

Prince SOYEBI said a preliminary investigation on the claims by JIMOH IBRAHIM also indicates that it was the accuser who allegedly used an intermediary to try and arrange a meeting in the United Kingdom with the Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The INEC Commissioner said the Resident Electoral Commissioner subsequently declined the invitation of JIMOH IBRAHIM, insisting that whatever he wanted to discuss can be done at the INEC office in Ondo State during working hours.

Furthermore, INEC explained that it only receives court orders that are served through court bailiff and not from individual parties involved in a dispute.

The commission also maintained that it only accepts nominations for elections from the national chairmen of political parties or their designated officials, and not directly from aspirants.

Following the development; the electoral commission said it wishes to assure the general public that it will never succumb to any form of blackmail or intimidation, but would remain focused on its determination to deliver free, fair and credible elections to Nigerians.
