The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Faraday Orunmuwese, made the announcement in the early hours of today.
Professor Orunmuwese returned Lyon as the winner of the keenly contested election after scoring the highest number of votes in the poll.
The APC candidate polled a total of three hundred and fifty two thousand five hundred and fifty two votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Duoye Diri, who scored one hundred and forty three thousand one hundred and seventy-two votes.
