Falana Urges Tinubu to Lead Fight Against Poverty, Not Just Advise Governors

Prominent human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take direct responsibility in tackling the rising poverty levels across the country, rather than simply urging state governors to act.

Falana made the appeal in a statement issued on Sunday, in response to President Tinubu’s recent remarks during a meeting with governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC). At the meeting, the President admitted that Nigerians are grappling with severe economic hardship caused by the implementation of neoliberal policies.

While commending the President for acknowledging the depth of the country’s economic crisis, Falana stressed that meaningful change must begin at the federal level. He argued that as the leader of the nation, Tinubu must take concrete steps to address the root causes of poverty and provide relief to millions of struggling citizens.

The senior lawyer emphasized that beyond rhetoric, decisive leadership and policy actions are urgently required to reverse the worsening economic conditions.
