As political calculations begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has stated that Labour Party’s Peter Obi lacks the political reach to penetrate northern Nigeria and secure votes comparable to those of President Bola Tinubu.
Keyamo, a prominent voice in the Tinubu administration, made the comment while addressing emerging opposition alignments, particularly the coalition recently announced under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to the minister, the coalition is unlikely to make a significant impact on the political landscape.
He argued that the North remains a crucial voting bloc, and Tinubu’s existing network and performance in office give him a considerable edge over potential challengers, including Obi.
The minister’s remarks come as various political actors and parties begin early strategizing and coalition-building ahead of the next general election.
