The Pharaohs were on course for victory until Argentina staged a dramatic comeback, scoring three goals, including the winner in stoppage time, to book a place in the quarter-finals.
In another Round of 16 fixture, Switzerland defeated Colombia 4-3 on penalties after both sides played out a goalless draw in regulation time to secure qualification for the quarter-finals.
