Authorities in Niger Republic have failed to release from prison the frontline opposition presidential candidate HAMA AMADOU.
AMADOU was jailed in November for alleged complicity in a baby trafficking ring, upon his return from a year-long exile.
He was a former ally of President MAHAMADOU ISSOUFOU, before becoming a major challenger to his re-election bid in February.
Critics have criticized the incumbent of becoming increasingly authoritarian, especially after uncovering what he described as an aborted coup in December.
