Residents Decry Slow Debris Clearance at Collapsed Five-Storey Building

Residents living near the site of the collapsed five-storey building on Odili Road in Port Harcourt have expressed concern over the slow pace of debris clearance, five days after the incident.

Residents of Number 82 Odili Road, which shares a boundary with the collapsed structure, said they have been unable to return to their homes because of safety concerns.

They alleged that the collapse damaged parts of their property, including the perimeter fence, generator house, and soakaway system. They also expressed fears that the building’s lift shaft could collapse onto their property.

The residents appealed to the Rivers State Government to speed up the clearance process, saying they have been forced to stay in hotels because they can no longer guarantee their safety.
