About four hundred people have been placed under observation in connection with the Lassa fever outbreak in Rivers State.
Those affected had made contact with late Doctor LIVING JAMALA of the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt, who died of Lassa fever virus he contracted from a female patient.The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, THEOPHILUS ODAGME confirmed the development while giving update on the status of the disease in the state.The Commissioner also said three other persons have been found to be without the virus after undergoing observation and checks.THEOPHILUS ODAGME assured that the state government has been working hard to ensure that Lassa fever does not claim any more life in the state. He said primary and environmental health workers have also been mobilized for sensitization programme across the twenty-three local government areas in the state to educate the rural dwellers on the dangers and prevention of the dreaded disease.The Commissioner for Health appealed to residents of Rivers State to continue to maintain good hygiene as a means to check the spread of Lassa fever virus.
