A woman from the United Arab Emirates is suing the Kenyan government over illegal detention. KAMILYA MOHAMMEDI TUWENI claims she was kidnapped by police and taken to Somalia and Ethiopia, where she was tortured. TUWENI said her abduction was carried out by Kenyan special police after she was accused of being an al-Qaeda agent while on a trip to Kenya in 2007. She was later released without charge after being detained for seventy-two days, and was given no reason for her detention.

At least twenty people have been killed in two car bombs in the northern Syrian city of Hassakeh. Local television reports that forty people were also injured in the blasts that targeted Kurdish security forces.
