The Independent National Electoral Commission is set to conduct elections for the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the FCT, Professor JACOB JATAU, has subsequently released a time-table of activities leading to the elections on 19th of March next year. He said electoral activities would commence on 26th of this month, while party primaries would hold from 26th November to 17th of December. JATAU urged residents who were transferred to the FCT to apply for the transfer of their Permanent Voter Cards, adding that the exercise was currently being undertaken in the secretariat of the area councils. He stressed the need for peaceful, fair and transparent elections in the territory and called on the youth to shun violence in order to make the exercise a success. The REC said the date for the Continuous Voter Registration would be announced to enable residents who have clocked 18 years to register for the election.
