The Primary Health Care Workers Association in Rivers State has rejected the posting of a Permanent Secretary as chief executive of the Primary Health Care Management Board.

The Primary Health Care Workers Association in Rivers State has rejected the posting of a Permanent Secretary as chief executive of the Primary Health Care Management Board.State President of the association, DANIEL ATIEMIE made the position of the workers known during a media briefing in Port Harcourt.
ATIEMIE said the posting is illegal, stressing that it does not comply with the law establishing the Primary Health Care Management Board
He argued that the extant law provides the State Governor shall appoint an Executive Secretary, a part-time board chairman and other board members.
It is the view of the leadership of the Primary Health Care Workers Association that a permanent secretary who do not have security of tenure may not have much to contribute to the sector.
DANIEL ATIEMIE called on Governor NYESOM WIKE to intervene and call the Head of Service to order.
ATIEMIE said the association demands the immediate reversal of the posting of the permanent secretary to the Primary Health Care Management Board to enable the workers to sustain the gains that have been made.
DANIEL ATIEMIE also faulted a statement credited to REUBEN NWECHONWU who leads a rival group of workers, purporting that the posting of the permanent secretary was in order.
ATIEMIE said NWECHONWU does not qualify to add his voice in matters affecting primary health care workers in Rivers State.
Correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the Primary Health Workers Association in Rivers State threaten to enforce the necessary labour actions if nothing was done to reverse the posting of the permanent secretary to the Primary Health Care Management Board.
