According to Reuters news agency, the suspect was named as SOULEYMANE KAMAGATÉ, who is an adviser to parliamentary speaker and former rebel leader GUILLAUME SORO.
State Prosecutor CHRISTOPHE ADOU said the cache of firearms include six tonnes of guns and ammunition.
But a spokesperson for the Speaker has said in statement that KAMAGATÉ is a strong man who will remain dignified.
The arrest of KAMAGATE, who also goes by the nicknamed Soul to Soul, is believed to signify the deepening of a rift between President ALLASANE OUATTARA and the Speaker of Parliament.
This comes as GUILLAUME SORO is tipped as a main contender for the presidency to replace OUATTARA who will not be eligible to run for another term in 2020.
