Doctor OSAHON ENABULELE made the observation while in a keynote address at 57th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Week of the Nigeria Medical Association.
Speaking at the event in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Doctor ENABULELE expressed worry that poor funding of the health sector was responsible for lack of equipment in Nigeria hospitals.
Doctor ENABULELE, who doubles as President of the Common Wealth Medical Association and Adviser to the World Medical Association, said the situation has forced most Nigerian doctors to seek opportunities to practice overseas.
He advised government at all levels to pay adequate attention to the health sector by investing in the right equipment to enable Nigerians drop the habit of overseas medical tourism.
However, the Permanent Secretary in the Rivers State Primary Health Care Board, Doctor HARRY AGRIYI criticized medical doctors for the habit of embarking on strike in every agitation.
Doctor AGRIYI called on medical practitioners to always channel their complaints to the appropriate authorities and be ready for dialogue.
