MOSOP may not be backing off with planned protest against commencement of oil exploration in Ogoni

Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the MOSOP protest is led by the President, LEGBORSI PYAGBARA.

The Ogoni protesters visited various oil pipelines running across the communities, waving palm leaves as they processed.

Some oil workers who were encountered with equipment at the various sites declined to speak with newsmen about the nature of their operations.

However, LEGBORSI PYAGBARA of MOSOP said they decided to embark on the demonstration to show to the world that the oil multinational had ignored the United Nations Report for the cleanup of polluted sites.

The MOSOP President said the oil companies have instead resorted to the backdoor to resume oil production.

He vowed that Ogoni people would continue to use peaceful means to resist any attempt to humiliate and treat them unjustly, while calling on the Federal Government to intervene to avert a repeat of what happened in 1993.

Also speaking, GANI TOGBA of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Associates, called for reappraisal of the UNEP Report to give room for further discussion among the stakeholders.
