The Chairman of the association, MUSA BABA-AHMED said amendment of the relevant legislation would help to check unwholesome activities at unlicensed abattoirs in the state.
BABA-AHMED observed the prevalence of the use of burning tires in the processing of meat in unapproved abattoirs, which he said was dangerous to health of consumers.
The Butchers Association Chairman also advised the Rivers State lawmakers to look into the nature of animals that are being slaughtered and sold as meat to unsuspecting members of the public at markets in Port Harcourt.
