The Deputy Governor, Doctor IPALIBO HARRY-BANIGO, said the effect of gas flaring on the environment is of major concern for the state government.
In an address at the Port Harcourt Environment Summit which held at the State House of Assembly complex, Doctor BANIGO noted Rivers State has been made to pay the price for gas flaring through degradation of the environment.
Speaking on behalf of Governor NYESOM WIKE, the Deputy Governor expressed hope that the summit would make recommendations that would help to address issues affecting the environment.
Earlier in his opening address, Chairman of the Rivers State House Committee on Environment, CHRISTIAN AHIAKWO said the summit was meant to prepare a policy framework for the enactment of a new legislation on the regulation of the environment.
