Reports say hundreds of people are gathered at the Kololo Independence ground and Nakawa Urban Council headquarters, where the SIM registration is taking place.
The Uganda Police and the Communications Commission had in April issued a seven-day ultimatum for Ugandans to verify their SIM cards using their National ID details.
But the deadline was extended by a month in a bid to get everyone involved in the measure to help fight increased crime in the country.
