The prosecution counsel, SEGUN JEGEDE, gave this indication at the resumption of hearing of the case against Justice ADEMOLA, who is being prosecuted alongside his wife and a senior lawyer, JOE AGINHAS.
JEGEDE said the defence witness had informed him that someone called the night before to broker a meeting with the defendants.
Based on the development; the Prosecution sought the leave of the court for witness protection, stressing that witnesses are the property of the court.
However; the defence lawyer, ONYECHI IKPEAZU, opposed the request, adding that the tales of attempted assassination was meant to instigate further media trial of his client and prejudice the main trial.
After listening to both sides; Justice JUDE OKEKE directed the Inspector General of Police to provide security and protection for all the parties and witnesses to prevent anything that could interfere with the smooth hearing of the case.
