Senate refer Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper for the 2017 Budget to Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the Senate intends for the committee to take a second look at the document before it would be given further attention.

The development followed an exhaustive debate that saw the Senators divided, with the opponents arguing that proposals contained therein were unrealistic.

Senator DINO MELAYE of the APC from Kogi West led the opposing group, as he asked the Senate to reject the MTEF document outright.

His position was supported by Senator BIODUN OLUJIMI from Ekiti State, who described the MTEF document as is incomplete.

But on his part; Senator BUKAR IBRAHIM appealed to his colleagues to accept the document.

A peep into the Medium Term Expenditure Framework document indicates that the executive predicated the 2017 Budget on an oil benchmark of forty-two dollars per barrel, at an exchange rate of two hundred and ninety naira to a dollar.
