5 soldiers killed in ambush by Boko Haram in Danboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force were also killed in the ambush, as well as one civilian.

The troops drawn from Operation Lafiya Dole were involved in clearance operations on terrorists’ hideouts around Talala and Ajigin, in the southern part of Borno State.

The spokesman for the Nigerian Army, Colonel SANI USMAN said the team was ambushed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists at Ugundiri village.

He said the bodies of the nine slain persons have been evacuated to Maiduguri, while others who sustained injuries are undergoing medical care and are in stable condition.

Colonel USMAN said the troops managed to destroy gun truck mounted by the terrorists and also recovered two Anti-Aircraft guns, 2 spare Gun barrels, 1 General Purpose Machine Gun, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade, 1 AK-47 Rifle and three hundred and twenty rounds of ammunition.

He said additional troops have been mobilized to the area to neutralize the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists.

The Army spokesman said troops have also neutralized suspected Boko Haram insurgents who were trying to regroup around Bori village, near Maiduguri.
