Maresca: Fernandes Should Have Been Sent Off in Manchester Derby

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has said Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes should also have been sent off during the Premier League clash against Manchester City.

Maresca made the comment while reacting to the controversial incidents from Sunday’s Manchester derby, which Manchester City won 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Manchester City played for more than an hour with 10 men after Phil Foden was sent off for kicking out at Fernandes.

However, Maresca argued that Fernandes’ involvement in the incident also warranted a red card, suggesting the Manchester United midfielder should have received the same punishment as Foden.

The decision has added to the controversy surrounding the derby, with the match also attracting scrutiny over the use of VAR in the build-up to Erling Haaland’s winning goal.

City eventually secured all three points through Haaland’s second-half strike, despite playing a man down for much of the match.
