Zverev Declares Himself World’s Best After US Open Triumph

German tennis star Alexander Zverev has declared himself the best player in the world after winning the 2026 US Open men’s singles title.

Zverev defeated American Ben Shelton in four sets, 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2, in the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The victory marks Zverev’s second Grand Slam title of the year, following his French Open triumph earlier in 2026.

The German also ended the major tournament season with an impressive 25-2 record in Grand Slam matches.

Asked whether he could now consider himself the best tennis player in the world, Zverev said he could make that claim based on his current form.

He said he believes he is the best player in the world “right, right now” following his impressive run at the US Open.
