Court to Rule on Forensic Examination of WhatsApp Messages in Emefiele’s Trial on September 15, 2025

The Special Offences Court in Ikeja has scheduled September 15, 2025, to deliver its ruling on an application filed by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, seeking a forensic examination of certain WhatsApp messages admitted as evidence in his ongoing trial. The messages are part of the evidence related to allegations of fraud involving $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion.

Justice Rahman Oshodi fixed the date after hearing arguments from Emefiele’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), who challenged the authenticity of the digital communications presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The former CBN governor’s lawyer stated that a forensic expert would be engaged to verify the authenticity of the messages.
