I.G.P. ARASE charged the police leadership in various formations, including Assistant Inspectors General of Police in charge of zonal commands and Command Commissioners of Police, to disarm members of the so-called Indigenous People of Biafra.
The IGP said the order became necessary following what he described as premeditated attacks on police officers engage in operations to restore public order in South-East and South-South states.ARASE said by allegedly attacking police personnel who were performing their statutory functions, the IPOB activists crossed the threshold in their misguided attempt to test the common will of the nation. He also directed the arrest of any member of the group found in possession of firearm and to bring such a person to justice.The Inspector General of Police also directed that all IPOB activists arrested in connection with the killing of the policemen should be charged for murder.In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, OLABISI KOLAWOLE, the Police High Command assured that the police would continue to work diligently towards eliminating any threat to internal security.
