Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the lower chamber of the National Assembly called the session outside it regular plenary schedule in a bid to listen to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, IBE KACHUKWU.But when it was time to call in the Petroleum Minister; members of the House drawn from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party rejected the invitation of IBE KACHUKWU into the Green Chamber.
After normalcy was restored; the House went into a closed-door session to enable the federal lawmakers sort out their differences.
When the minister got a chance to speak to the House after the closed-door session, he told the lawmaker that Government had no other option than to increase the price of fuel.He said the decision was because of the diminished foreign exchange supply situation in Nigeria, which forced marketers to stop importation and imposed over ninety per cent supply burden on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
General
Dscussions on the fuel subsidy removal and increase in the pump price of petrol temporarily disrupted a Special Session of the House of Representatives yesterday.
