Mobile phone and electronics giants – Apple, Samsung and Sony – have come under the radar of Amnesty International over child labour issues.
The US-based human rights organization is alleging that the companies are failing to do basic checks to ensure minerals used in their products are not mined by children.A report by Amnesty made reference to cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where children as young as seven were found working in dangerous conditions. However; the companies were quoted in a report by the BBC, saying that they had a zero tolerance policy towards child labour.
