Odiakosa-Mmakwe who runs a maternity home had approached the court seeking redress over abuse of her fundamental Human Rights and those of her staff after they were arrested, detained for days and paraded at the command Headquarters.
Justice Mohammed Abubakar in his judgment granted all the seven reliefs sought for by the plaintiff’s Counsel, Henry Ekeni which include declaration that the arrest, detention and public parading before Investigation was violation of human rights.
Justice Abubakar instead of granting the N2m compensation sought for by the plaintiff granted N20m in their favour.
Speaking to newsmen outside the courtroom, Counsel to the plaintiff, Ekene described the judgment as a well considered justice that has not only proven the independence of the Judiciary but will serve as lesson.
Our Correspondent reports that Counsel to Police declined to speak on the judgment.
However, the owner of the maternity home Odiakosa-Mmakwe when contacted said the court has vindicated her and her staff, expressing hope that the police will obey the judgment.
